House painters in Cincinnati, Ohio

Paint it once. We come back every year.

Second Look keeps a painted house looking painted. Once a year a crew arrives with your colors on file, fixes the scuffs, nail pops and open caulk lines, and leaves you a written list of what they saw.

  • A written list after every visit
  • Your colors kept on file

The membership

Pick how much of the year we hold for you

Every tier starts with one walk-through and a written color record. What follows is a visit, or two, or a room a year. Your price is written after we see the house.

  • One visit

For a house in good shape that needs its small things caught once a year.

    • A walk-through with you, and a list
    • Half a day, two painters
    • Scuffs, nail pops and open caulk lines touched up
    • Your color record kept current
    • Outside look-over with photos
    • A room repainted
  • Two visits

    Most members start here

An inside visit in the quiet months and an outside look-over before winter.

    • Everything in One visit
    • Outside look-over with photos
    • Trim, sills, porch rails and doors touched up
    • Caulk gaps and bare spots spot-primed
    • A written list after each visit
    • A room repainted
  • A room a year

Both visits, plus one room repainted each year, so the house is redone over time.

    • Everything in Two visits
    • One room repainted, walls and trim
    • You pick the room, we log the color
    • Furniture moved and covered
    • A second room in the same year
    • Drywall or plaster repair beyond hairline cracks

A membership is a service agreement, not insurance. It is billed once a year, on the date you join, and renews one year at a time. To cancel, call or text before the renewal date; we send a reminder 30 days ahead. A visit you did not use by the renewal date does not carry over, and we do not refund visits already made. Water damage, rot and whole-wall repainting are not part of a visit; we write them up separately before any work. Your price is written down after we walk the house.

The year

When each part of the membership happens

We book inside visits in the quiet months and outside work on dry days. The dates below are the usual ones; your visit is set with you.

  • Inside visit

Our crews have the most room from November to April, so inside visits are booked first. You choose between two dates.

    Nov–Apr

  • Outside look-over

Siding, trim, shutters, porch and entry, photographed and written up.

    Apr–Jun

  • Caulk, spot-prime and touch-up

Outside touch-ups need dry days, so we wait for them rather than promise a date.

    May–Oct

  • Your color record

Updated after every visit and after any repaint.

On a visit

What two painters fix in a half day

Small things, done while they are small. If something needs more than a touch-up, we write it on your list and do not start it.

  • Scuffs and scrapes

Door edges, corners, the wall behind the vacuum, the stair wall.

  • Nail pops and hairline cracks

Filled, sanded and spot-primed, then painted in your color.

  • Open caulk lines

Where trim has pulled from the wall or a window casing has gapped.

  • Doors and trim

Hinge edges, handle areas, baseboards and window sills that take the wear.

  • Stairs and rails

Stair walls, spindles and handrails, where hands and bags rub every day.

  • Porch, entry and shutters

On the outside tiers: the parts of the house that weather first.

Your color record

A touch-up only works if we know what is on the wall

Before the first visit we write down every color in the house: the name, the code, the sheen, the rooms and the date it went on. After each visit we update it.

A patch in the wrong sheen shows in the afternoon light, and a color matched from a chip drifts as a wall ages. With the record, a crew mixes the same paint you chose and knows which coat of what is underneath.

  • Color name, code and sheen, room by room

  • The date it was painted, and by whom

  • A photo of the wall in daylight

  • Where any leftover paint is kept

Two ways to keep a house

A yearly visit, or a call when it bothers you

Both are fair. Which one fits depends on the house and on how much of it you want to remember.

The crews

Twenty people, two crews, seven names to know

Blue crew does most inside visits and Yellow does the outside, each named for the tape it carries. These seven set your schedule and write your list.

  • Clarice Currie

    Owner and membership lead

Walks every new member’s house herself, writes the color record and signs the first list.

  • Rufino Balderas

    Blue crew lead, inside visits

Leads the crew that does most inside visits. Keeps the roller, the tape and the patience.

  • Shalini Chauhan

    Yellow crew lead, outside work

Leads the crew for porches, trim, shutters and entries, and the spring look-over.

  • Ira Appleby

    Visit scheduler

Calls members in the quiet months to set the visit. Rufino and Shalini both depend on his calendar.

  • Narciso Calvillo

    Painter, Blue crew

Patching, sanding and cut-in work on inside visits.

  • Tunde Abara

    Painter, Yellow crew

    Caulk, spot-prime and exterior trim.

  • Lottie Askew

    Painter, doors and trim

Hinge edges, casings and stair rails, which wear first.

Members

What members say about the second look

“Rufino had my wall color written in the book, so the scuffs by the back door vanished instead of showing up as a lighter patch.”

Opal H.Hyde Park, One visit

“I did not have to remember anything. They called in February, we picked a Thursday, and I had a page of photos of what else they had noticed.”

Corbin T.Oakley, Two visits

“The porch rail and the north shutters were what I would have noticed in three years. Shalini’s crew spot-primed both in October.”

Sybil R.Wyoming, Two visits

“We sold the house in year two. One call to cancel, and a note back that day confirming it.”

Questions

Before you call

What happens on a visit?

Two painters arrive in a window we text you the day before, walk the house with you, then work through the list for a half day or a full day, depending on the tier. You get a written list within the week.

How is this different from calling a painter when I need one?

The visit is on the calendar, so small things get fixed before they become a repaint, and your colors are already on file. If your house needs one small fix every few years, calling is fine.

Is a membership insurance or a warranty?

No. It is a service agreement for visits. Any warranty from a past paint job is separate, and its terms, limits and exclusions are in that job’s written warranty.

How do I cancel?

Call or text before your renewal date. We text a reminder 30 days ahead. Visits already made are not refunded, and an unused visit does not carry over.

My house was built before 1978. Does that change a visit?

Yes. EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting rule covers paid work that disturbs paint in homes built before 1978. Tell us the year when you join. Scraping, sanding and caulk removal on those homes follow lead-safe work practices, and our firm number is in the footer.

What about the weather?

Inside visits do not care. Outside work needs dry days and paint that can cure, so we schedule those on dry days and do not promise a date in advance.
